The objective for creating the StrAU

To become a global science and education centre in autonomous energy and energy efficiency, as well as achieve global leadership in R&D efforts in regards to efficient current generators through the use of light, radiation and temperature gradients, energy-efficient materials, and power storage and control systems. With its sights set on this goal, the StrAU will be able to ensure the University’s high QS and THE global ratings, as well as its QS Materials Science ranking, by increasing its citation index and improving its academic reputation.








Areas of focus

·      Growing demand for alternative energy sources due to the depletion of mineral fuel resources and their negative impact on the environment

·      Growing demand for portable power sources to enable the operation of mobile devices for a long periods of time

·      Growing demand for materials with new properties

·    Enhancement of the University’s increased academic reputation and its citation index due to research in the key areas of study

The StrAU “Autonomous and energy efficiency” is one of the five NUST MISiS’s StrAUs. Every StrAU of the University consists of educational, scientific and innovative compounds. However, each StrAU is unique in its functions and its contribution to the University’s development. The StrAU “Autonomous and energy efficiency” is a cross-disciplinary unit focused on the scientific breakthroughs and elite education (postgraduate, Master’s and Bachelor’s studies) delivered both in Russian and English in such fields as materials science and engineering. The major contribution the StrAU makes to the University’s development is increasing citation and strengthening academic reputation of the University, in particular as the international educational centre of materials science and engineering. TheStrAU “Autonomous and energy efficiency” cooperates with other University’s StrAUs in new materials development. For example, in engineering it collaborates with the StrAU “Industrial design and engineering technologies to reindustrialise the economy” presenting demand for its infrastructure and competencies in the field of prototyping and manufactured goods development.
