Study of interfaces in metallic materials

The interfaces play a key role in the properties of materials , such as mechanical, catalytic, diffusion , etc. In addition, the surfaces are the main cause of the specific properties of nanostructured materials. Therefore, the study of basic properties of surfaces (energy, chemical composition, structure) is a key challenge for materials science. The research carried out at the Department of Physical Chemistry, NUST " MISA" is aimed at the study of the thermodynamics and kinetics of the interfaces and the grain boundaries. Interface energy measurements are carried out by original direct method. The kinetic properties are determined by the diffusion method and the method based on the effect of the liquid metal penetration. The research applies a wide range of modern analytical techniques such as electron microscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy
