Alexander N. Vasiliev is the specialist in the field of condensed matter physics.

His scientific activity is oriented on the search and study of various functional materials, mostly metaloxide compounds oriented on high technologies based on superconducting, magnetic, ferroelectric, and thermoelectric properties.

 In the frames of created by him laboratories in Moscow State University and Institute of Solid State Physics and Materials Research, Dresden, Germany A.N. Vasiliev and his team have synthesize_d and/or studied several classes of metaloxides including:
- 1)rare earth ferroborates REFe3(BO3)4 with non linear optical properties to be used in solid state lasers and systems employing the principles of solid state optics (12 papers);
17.jpg- 2) the materials with colossal magnetoresistance effect at room temperatures based on perovskites of REMnO3 type and double perovskites of CaCu3Mn4O12 and RECu3Mn4O12 types (18 papers);
- 3) materials to be used in devices based on multiferroic effects of LiCu2O2 and Li2ZrCuO4 types and materials with magnetization reversal of Ni(HCOO)2*2H2O and Cr3(PO4)2 types (14 papers);
- 4) superconducting materials of iron pnictides and chalcogenides of FeSe and LiFeAs types (26 papers);
- 5) thermoelectric materials based on metaloxide compounds of REBaCo4O7 type and other compounds based on manganese and cobalt with mixed valence of Eu2CoMnO6 (10 papers).

- Grants of German Scientific Foundation DFG (3) - Joint Russian – German Lab on the study of quantum ground states of matter
- Grants of Federal Target Programs, RFBR, 1 contract - Superconductivity in energy saving technologies (joint Russian – Ukrainian Laboratory based on Low temperature physics department of Physics Faculty, Lomonosov Moscow State University with Verkin Low temperature physics and engineering institute (ILTPE))
