Open international grant competition of National University of Science and Technology «MISiS»  designed to support Young scientists (PostDoc) with international background, invited to conduct a joint research project during 2 years (2016-2018)


The purpose of this grant competition is to identify, in compliance with approved procedures and regulations, the best research project proposal (proposals) submitted by an applicant (applicants) seeking support in the form of a grant of the National University of Science and Technology «MISiS»

National University of Science and Technology «MISiS» is  a world leader in fundamental and applied research in materials science, metallurgy, mining, nanotechnologies, IT and biomedicine.

National University of Science and Technology «MISiS» will make its grants available to support research projects in the below listed fields of science:

·                     Meta-materials and post-silicon electronics materials design

·                     Autonomous energy and energy efficiency

·                     Materials and technologies for improving human lifespan and overall quality  of life

·                     Industrial design and engineering technologies toreindustrialise the economy

·                      Green  technologies for efficient resource use


How to Apply?

Before Proceeding


A Young scientists with international background who applied for a grant in collaboration with National University of Science and Technology «MISiS» research team, in compliance with cl. 6.1 to 6.4 of the Competition Documentation are deemed as a single applicant.

A Young scientist may take part in one research project only.

A research team shall include: a Young scientist and National University of Science and Technology «MISiS - based Scientific advisor, at least one post graduate student, at least one undergraduate student.

  Young scientists with an international PhD degree, and with 1 year (in total) work experience in leading international research and development centers, are eligible to apply for the grant competition.

 Young scientists are not eligible to apply for the grant competition if they have had job relationships with National University of Science and Technology «MISiS for the last 3 years (from 2013 till 2015).

A Young scientist should not be older than 35 years (by the end of 2016).

Conditions of Award


2 years

(to start the work in July 2016, at latest  September 2016)


National University of Science and Technology «MISiS» is located 15 km from the city center


Grants are made available in the amount from 4.0  to 5.6 mln rubles (including taxes and social benefits) each to invite Young scientists for a research project for a period of two years


If possible, accommodation is provided in residence halls

Medical Insurance

Medical Insurance is provided for foreigners

Submitting a grant application

Envelopes with grant applications shall be submitted to the address of the grant competition organizer 119049 NUST «MISiS», room B-520, 5th floor, Leninsky prospect,4 Moscow (International Research Projects Department, code №431) in the period from April 29, 2016  to June 30, 2016 (12:00 Moscow time).


The Grant Competition Stages

First Stage

At the first stage of the competition Young scientist shall mail to the following information in electronic form:


 -at least two reference letters (signed by the author with his contacts);

-PhD supporting document;

-passport copy;

-area of research interest

-ability to work on the specified equipment.

Second Stage

At the second stage the Young scientist seeks scientific research area and possible scientific advisor at National University of Science and Technology «MISiS» using ( ,

Third Stage

In collaboration with his/her Scientific advisor a Young scientist defines the topic of his/her project and mails to a filled in Form A.  «Application Registration».

Fourth Stage

In collaboration with his/her Scientific advisor a Young scientist prepares an Application for competition participation according to cl. 6.1-6.4.

Fifth Stage

The fifth stage is an on-line interview with the Young scientist, his/her Scientific advisor and research team.

Sixth Stage

The final decision on the grant allocation is taken at stage six following competitive selection 


Requirements for CV Submission

In order for your resume to be reviewed it should be compiled in English.

Specify your level of English (B1, B2, C1, C2).

The following information should be highlighted as separate resume items:

·      List of publications for the entire period of scientific activities or for the last 5 years, with an index of citation on the filing date, as well as the journal impact factor;

·      The list of conferences, the dates of the conference, the city and the country and the quality of participation: oral presentation, poster, availability of published articles in the book of abstracts;

·      Research area, knowledge (in any of the above fields of science)

·      Contact Information: e-mail, home address, place of work, contact phone number;

·      Date and place of the PhD defense and the Diploma of Higher Education issue (name of the institution where the defense took place and research manager’s name);

·      Describe all the experience available (in any of the above fields of science)

·      Describe all obtained awards, patents, applications for an invention, grants, diplomas, etc.

·      Indicate names of the projects, grants, under which your research work has been conducted, as well as duration and venue (country, organization) thereof;
