As an interdisciplinary research institute of the ETH Domain, Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, conducts cutting-edge materials and technology research. Empa’s R&D activities focus on meeting the requirements of industry and the needs of society, and thus link applications-oriented research to the practical implementation of new ideas. As a result, Empa is capable of providing its partners with customized solutions that not only enhance their innovative edge and competitiveness, but also help to improve the quality of life for the public at large. Through an efficient technology transfer Empa is turning research results into marketable innovations: Empa – The Place Where Innovation Starts

The talk will give an overview of Empa’s research as well as its knowledge and technology transfer activities.

Gabriele Dobenecker has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Hamburg where she studied with a focus on data bases and artificial intelligence. 1985 she started working for the Hamburg software developer Gauss GmbH. There she established their database competence centre and later ran the data base application and consulting profit centre. In 1993 Gabriele Dobenecker joined Sybase, the US database provider where she held various positions in Marketing and Business Development in Germany and Switzerland before moving in 1999 to US software provider SAS Institute AG as Marketing Director Switzerland and member of the Swiss board. From 2005 on Gabriele Dobenecker was EMEA Marketing Manager After Sales & Services at General Electric. Since 2007 she heads the Marketing, Knowledge and Technology Transfer section at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research. In this role she is responsible among others for Marketing, Business Development, Knowledge and Technology Transfer, Events, Start-up support and Sponsoring.
